Scar Treatment

Scarring is part of the natural restorative process of the body but sometimes it can impair movement, and cannot be hidden causing maximum loss of self-confidence, especially in women. Having scars on your body can be a very embarrassing and frustrating experience if timely dermatological intervention is not taken from any of the best “dermatologists in Delhi”.

Causes

Various factors influence the treatment of scars that emerge post injury, child birth, burns, acne or any other untreated skin condition that has been poorly controlled in the past. The following four types of scars are encountered in people with burn, sports or accident injuries occurring by fall or collision.

Symptoms

KELOID:

In burn injuries, where patients are administered pain killers, aggressively, these keloid scars may develop as a consequence of the aggressive treatment approach and may impair mobility.

CONTRACTURE:

Patients with burn injuries usually get these kinds of scars that can tighten the skin and impair movement and can be quite painful to endure. In cases where the patient’s body has suffered burns up to 50-60%, these scars can go right down to the nerves and muscles exacerbating the discomfort.

HYPERTROPHIC:

Patients having red, raised scars that do not go beyond the circumference of the injury are referred to as hypertrophic in nature.

ACNE SCARS:

Acne scars can be in deep pit form or thy maybe wave-like or angular in nature. Sometimes, acne scars are accompanied by incorrigible itching that never seems to fade away and interferes with sleep causing more havoc with the system. Uncontrollable itching, if experienced by a patient is reduced to a minimum by keeping the skin hydrated and preventing it from drying.

Treatment approaches for various kinds of scars

Hypertrophic

scars are treated with either steroid injections or with silicone sheets. Special injections called “collagen” or fillers may be used to treated complications like “pitted” scarring.

KELOIDS

are best treated with the help of pressure treatments through specially made garments that assist in the healing process after a severe burn injury where the patient’s skin has been scarred to almost 25-30% burns. Surgical intervention is required to remove keloid scars or if a conservative approach is followed, then steroid injections coupled with silicone sheets/gel pads may be employed to flatten the scar.Cryotherapy or the technique of freezing the scar using liquid nitrogen is deployed to treat smaller keloids. Dark or dusky skin people have a higher propensity to be afflicted with Keloid scars.

Acne scars:

Acne scar treatment creams are prescribed for the long haul to ensure that the scar is protected from sunlight so that dark spots soften and become less visible.

Dry skin is the hot bed of all skin diseases and a regimen of good food, exercise, and sleep is recommended in order to ensure that the anti-inflammatory functions of the body are in perfect shape to fight off internal and external stimuli that cause itching, pain, discomfort, restlessness and stress. The more closer a patient is to nature by following the biological and circadian rhythms, the better will be his or her response to treatment.
