Cosmelan Treatment
Cosmelan is a clinical name given to the treatment of facial pigmentation by using chemical peels or in simple words, facial peels. The primary use of these facial peels is to help treat melisma or the pregnancy mask phenomenon that occurs in ladies owing to hormonal imbalance during pregnancy. The central idea behind treating Cosmelan peels by dermatologists in Delhi is to inhibit the formation of tyrosinase, the enzyme used in melanin formation which ultimately triggers hyper-pigmentation. These facial peels basically trigger a deep exfoliation procedure that removes the outer layers of the skin to deliver a fresher, brighter complexion.
Advantages of cosmelan treatment:
Facial peels diminish ageing signs to reveal a more mature skin by suppressing fine lines, discolouration to lend the skin a more youthful, radiant look post treatment. Blemishes resulting from acne can be very easily taken care of by these facial peels. Treating the melanin patches on the surface of the skin is the number one benefit of cosmelan treatment that takes care of any kind of pigmentation disorders that reduce the aesthetic appeal of the face or any other body part. Advanced cosmelan treatments use mesoestetic melanostop peel before applying the cosmelan peel for best results. Quite useful in the treatment of pregnancy masks. Though melisma arising out of pregnancy goes away on its after childbirth, in some cases, it might require medical intervention.
Treatment:
Cosmelan is ideal for acne treatment and young teenage patients report higher efficacy of this kind of treatment to any other form of treatment that they have been subjected before.
- Two types of masks are used in cosmelan treatment: one for the full face and the other for touching up those highly pigmented areas, one month after the application of the first pack.
- No prior skin preparation is required to start cosmelan treatment unlike other skin disorders where the skin needs to be thoroughly cleansed and prepared before applying high strength creams or lotions.
The needs of every patient are different and cosmelan treatment can be varied in terms of strength and intensity of peels used depending upon the severity of the complication being faced by the patient.
- The treatment duration lasts just half an hour but the number of treatment sessions required varies as per the severity of the condition. A specially chosen chemical solvent is applied before the facial peel is applied. Once the chemical gets active, the skin feels warm and exfoliation begins revealing healthy skin below.
Popular chemical peels used in cosmelan treatment include:
- Lactic peel in concentrations of 30%, 40% 50%
- Mandelic peel in concentrations of 30%, 40% 50%
- Salicyclic peel in concentration of 10%, 20%, 30%
Cosmelan treatment is considered to be quite effective for not just melasmas or pregnancy masks but also for freckles, acne scars, hyper pigmentation, fine wrinkles, anti-ageing, actinic keratosis. The number one benefit is a younger looking skin with fewer fine lines and that can knock off many years from a person’s age making him or her age gracefully with the passage of time.
